I found this article and it is amazing how much of it
relates to our class. I apologize that it is longer, but it is totally worth
the read. It highlights so many of the issues we have talked about, especially
the ones we talked about today in class. It discusses how there is a clear
difference between supporting female sexuality in the media and focusing on nothing else but
female sexuality. I really like how it points out that when two men fight, they
are typically considered to be having a disagreement. But when women fight,
they are not having a disagreement; rather, they are having a "cat
fight." Like we have said in class, I think women do have to act in sexual
ways in order to be famous. Again, the people who are higher up and influence
what the female artists do are mostly men, and men want to see their
"women as all sexual" dream world come true. I totally agree with
the article in that Miley and Sinead fighting is not helping women gain more
power in the music industry; instead, it is dividing women and is making their
movement suffer. Women in the music industry, and else where, need to be united
as one; only then will women be able to accomplish the goals that they want to
achieve in society (Tam).
