Grandtheft Auto V

Yesterday, my brother purchased a video game called Grand Theft Auto Five. While watching him play the game, I realized that the game really defiled women. Not only did it make the women seen as a sexual toy, but also inferior to society. The women in the game barely have on any clothes. The only occupations in the game for women are strippers and fast food workers.  This shows how the women are viewed in society. This game really opened my eyes, simply because I could not believe my brother was playing this game. When I asked him how he felt about it. He stated that its just girls, what wrong with them just doing there job. This hurt me a little because my job is not to be a house slave nor a boy toy. By seeing this game, I believe women should begin to stand up to men and show them what they are really made of, not just their physical appearance, but their intelligence.

  1. That's crazy! I knew that the roles of women in earlier versions of the game were like that, but I was kind of hopeful that they had changed since then.

  2. Oh my goodness, I hear what you are saying, Dewonna! I have heard about the nudity and degradation of women in Grand Theft Auto V. I couldn't believe that they would put that on a video game! Even though it is rated mature or something like that, you know little kids are still going to get their hands on it. Now we will have a bunch of little kids being exposed to nudity at such a young age. More so, we will be reinforcing the idea that women are seen as sex objects, which is definitely not the direction we want to go. Somehow, someway, men need to start thinking of women as "sexy" with their clothes on, and be satisfied with it. I know its highly improbable but I don't know any other way that would help to stop women being portrayed as naked sex objects. Business people like to appeal to men's desires so they will watch or play their merchandise; as a result, they will give them what they want, which is to get aroused by seeing naked women. Men's attitudes regarding women as sex objects really needs to change so women can become more equal to men. Once this happens, I think women will be on the fast road to becoming completely equal to men.

  3. I've had an issue with this game for awhile now. I remember when I was younger and my older cousin (who happens to be a boy) would play it and I definitely remember that almost all of the women in the earlier versions of the game were portrayed as strippers or prostitutes. I also remember my cousin having no problem with the scantily clad women present throughout much of the game. I think it makes quite a statement about our society that not only is this game still hugely popular, but also the fact that women have been continually objectified as sex objects as well.

  4. its so nasty really. I guess this game is being revered for its innovative "world"styles or something (sorry gamers, I'm not up on the lingo) and the really awesome graphics this time around.
My boyfriend and I were watching Conan O'Brien the other night, when he preview-played GTA V. There is a part where you go to a strip club and if you "flirt" enough, you can even get a lap dance, from a completely topless stripper, or even get to "take one home". So we're sitting there horrified by the watching first-person player experience of receiving a lap dance from a virtual stripper, and oh my god and think about what this could do to a little boy's views of women and sex? (Did I mention the graphics are incredibly realistic?) Not like it's anything new for video games, but when will this shit stop? It is so, so, so bad in the gaming world. (heres a link to the video of conan playing...I don't like his responses either but whatever--http://teamcoco.com/video/clueless-gamer-splinter-cell?.src=ap:70298)

also, here's another critique of the game from a man, pointing out the various awful "batshit crazy" representations of women that he has experienced in haveing completed 67 of 69 of the games challenges--http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2013/09/26/on-gender-and-gta-5/)

This woman's critique (--http://www.gamespot.com/grand-theft-auto-v/reviews/grand-theft-auto-v-review-6414475/) points out just how innovative and creative this new edition is in certain areas on a technical level, (things like all sorts of extra games/hobbies in a super extensive world, to being able to choose which genre of music you want to listen to on the radio in the car, the list goes on) but yet, where it succeeds in technical gamer innovation, it fails to reach a large potential audience by alienating another consumer: the female gamer.
